The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.13 million cases by Friday, September 30, 2022. According to GISAID data, El Salvador recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 298 new cases. This represents 0.01 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Russia reported a 21.08 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 2.62 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Venezuela saw a 16.85 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 208 cases compared to the previous week; Pakistan reported 2,003 new Omicron cases (a 15.31% increase); and Aruba reported 554 new Omicron cases (an 11.47% increase).
In Indonesia, as of today, there are 23,099 Omicron cases, a 1.48 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily increased.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
