The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.74 million cases by Wednesday, December 14, 2022. According to GISAID data, Finland recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 17,860 new cases. This represents 0.31 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Greece follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country increased by 5.22 percent, with 9,923 new cases reported. The daily increase in Omicron cases shows a 5.22 percent rise compared to the previous day's 9,431 cases.
Next, Omicron cases in Russia increased by 4.11 percent to 36,390 compared to the previous week; in Singapore, the increase was 3.45 percent, reaching 16,468 cases; and in Mauritius, it rose by 3.38 percent to 4,528 cases.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 30,369, a 0.37 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its first detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
