This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 10 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 19 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Japan, and South Korea. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, August 11, 2022, was 1,499, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 39.33 percent.
Kazakhstan recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, an increase from the one death reported the previous week.
Next is the United Arab Emirates, which recorded a 100 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported two more deaths than the previous week's single death. Deaths in the Philippines increased by 69.12%, deaths in Japan increased by 46.69%, and deaths in South Korea increased by 39.33% (248 deaths).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,131 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 46.69% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, the Islamic Republic of Iran recorded 430 deaths (up 3.86%), India recorded 349 deaths (up 9.4%), Taiwan recorded 279 deaths (down 10.58%), and South Korea recorded 248 deaths (up 39.33%).
A total of 3,199 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 22.69 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 14,096. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,738 deaths.
