The latest report from Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the hotel occupancy rate (HOR) for star-rated hotels in Indonesia in August 2023 was 52.46%. This figure is down 2.17 percentage points from July 2023.
However, the August 2023 HOR for star-rated hotels was 5.08 percentage points higher than in August 2022, which stood at 47.38%. Compared to the early period of the Covid-19 pandemic, the trend for the HOR of star-rated hotels in Indonesia has shown an increase over the past three years, as seen in the graph above.
By province, Bali had the highest national HOR for star-rated hotels in August 2023, reaching 60.64%.
This was followed by South Sumatra with a star-rated hotel HOR of 58.86% and East Kalimantan with 58.82%. Meanwhile, the lowest national HOR for star-rated hotels was recorded in Aceh at only 31.18%.
Similarly, the HOR for non-star-rated hotels also decreased in August 2023 to 25.48%, down 0.26 percentage points compared to July 2023. However, this achievement grew by 1.79 percentage points compared to August of the previous year.
Bali also had the highest national HOR for non-star-rated hotels in August 2023, at 39.86%, followed by North Kalimantan at 35.87% and Lampung at 29.7%. Meanwhile, the lowest HOR for non-star-rated hotels was in Maluku at only 17.64%.
