According to a Populix survey, 33% of female respondents in Indonesia have experienced unpleasant treatment from female colleagues in the workplace.
Of those who experienced such treatment, the majority (62%) received condescending facial expressions. 54% received belittling comments, 38% experienced exclusivity in friendships, and 37% experienced body shaming or physical criticism from female colleagues.
Additionally, 30% experienced rejection of their ideas or suggestions, 24% experienced aggressive behavior, and 22% experienced bullying.
The majority (54%) of these respondents chose to avoid conflict. Meanwhile, 39% confronted the perpetrators directly, and 7% sought help from others.
"Regardless of the various approaches to handling this situation, most respondents believe that discrimination from fellow women has a negative impact on their work and productivity," said the Populix team in their *Women’s Equality in the Workplace* report.
Populix conducted this online survey from March 20-24, 2024, involving 424 working women in Indonesia.
The majority of respondents were from Java (81%), followed by Sumatra (13%), and other islands (7%). Respondents were predominantly aged 17-25 (45%) and 26-35 (27%).
