The Omicron B.1.1.529 variant of the Covid-19 virus has recently become a global concern, and cases have been detected in Indonesia. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted research on the symptoms experienced by Omicron variant Covid-19 patients.
The CDC reported that a majority, or 89%, of Omicron variant Covid-19 patients experienced a cough. In addition to coughing, 65% also experienced fatigue.
Furthermore, Omicron variant Covid-19 patients also experienced a runny nose or nasal congestion, affecting 59% of those infected.
Other symptoms experienced by Omicron variant Covid-19 patients included fever (38%), nausea or vomiting (22%), shortness of breath (16%), diarrhea (11%), and anosmia or loss of smell (8%).
The CDC also reported that the 18-39 age group has so far been the most affected by the Omicron variant, with 89% of cases. This is followed by the 40-64 age group (23%), the 65 and over age group (9%), and the under 18 age group (9%).
To anticipate the spread of the new Omicron variant, the government urges the public to remain vigilant to avoid contracting the coronavirus, including this new variant. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
