The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.03 million cases by Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Bolivia recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 78.95 percent. GISAID recorded 136 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 78.95 percent compared to the previous day.
China (PRC) follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country grew by 7.74 percent, with 18,072 new cases reported. Daily statistics show a 1.47 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 17,810 cases.
Next, Pakistan saw a 2.84 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 2,792 compared to the previous week; Vietnam with 5,403 new Omicron cases (up 1.81 percent); and the Netherlands with 71,155 new Omicron cases (up 1.58 percent).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 34,707, showing a 0 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
