COVID-19 statistics in Europe this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 16 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 15 other countries recorded deaths, but in smaller numbers.
Percentage-wise, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Greece, Slovenia, Lithuania, Ukraine, and Norway. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of September 18, 2022, amounted to 1,040, with a weekly growth exceeding 133.33 percent.
Greece recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 3,150 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 975 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week, which reported only 30 deaths.
Next is Slovenia, which recorded deaths 225 percent higher than the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 13, higher than the four deaths recorded the previous week. Deaths in Lithuania increased by 166.67%, deaths in Ukraine increased by 150%, and deaths in Norway increased by 133.33%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Greece, with 975 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 3,150% compared to the previous week. Following that, the highest number of deaths in Russia was recorded at 672, an increase of 5.33%; Germany recorded 634 deaths, an increase of 18.06%; Spain recorded 595 deaths, an increase of 101.01%; and Italy recorded 351 deaths, a decrease of 5.9%.
Total deaths in Europe over the past seven days were recorded at 4,520. This figure accounts for 39.41 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 11,468. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,360 deaths.
