This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 10 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while seven others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Suriname, Ecuador, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, and Paraguay. The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, October 27, 2022, amounted to 54, with weekly growth exceeding 100 percent.
Suriname ranks first, with a 300 percent increase in weekly deaths. Worldometer recorded four deaths in this country, an increase compared to the previous week's single death.
Ecuador follows, with a 300 percent weekly increase in deaths. Four deaths were reported in this country, compared to one the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Honduras reported 30 deaths (up 172.73%), Trinidad and Tobago saw a 133.33% increase in deaths, and Paraguay reported two deaths (up 100%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest seven-day death toll in the Americas occurred in the United States, with 1,080 deaths. This represents a 37.17% decrease compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil reported 421 deaths (up 4.73%), Canada 144 deaths (up 69.41%), Chile 122 deaths (up 11.93%), and Mexico 53 deaths (up 15.22%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 1,911. This accounts for 23.32 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 8,194. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,475.
