Based on national Covid-19 data recapitulation, 93 regencies/cities aggressively conducted weekly testing exceeding the national average. As of Monday, January 16, 2023, the national average testing rate was recorded at 12.96 percent. This testing achievement data is calculated based on the number of people tested compared to each region's weekly target, which is then reported to the Ministry of Health.
The top five, starting from the highest percentage of people tested per week, are Balikpapan City (404.66%), Purwakarta (243.9%), Sikka (191.61%), Kutai Kartanegara (186.98%), and Bontang City (173.63%).
Balikpapan City ranks first. With a population of 649,420, the weekly testing percentage is recorded at 404.66 percent. The latest positive rate is 0.46 percent. The positive rate in this region increased compared to the previous week's percentage.
Next is Purwakarta. The population of this region is recorded at 965,370. In an effort to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic, the weekly testing percentage is 243.9 percent. The positive rate in this region is recorded at 0.51 percent, or higher than the previous week's percentage.
Furthermore, Sikka recorded 191.61 percent testing, Kutai Kartanegara recorded 186.98 percent, and Bontang City recorded 173.63 percent.
In anticipation of the Omicron impact in various regions, based on the national Covid-19 data recapitulation, there are 166 regencies/cities in Indonesia that actively report a higher weekly testing percentage than before. Meanwhile, 174 other regencies/cities recorded a lower weekly testing percentage compared to the previous week.
Some of the regions outside Java with the highest weekly testing percentages include Balikpapan City, Sikka, and Kutai Kartanegara, with weekly testing percentages of 404.66 percent, 191.61 percent, and 186.98 percent, respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue to participate in reducing Covid-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the rate of coronavirus transmission.
