This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Five countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while eight others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, Canada, and Chile. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, October 24, 2022, amounted to 850, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 7.41 percent.
Paraguay had the highest weekly increase in deaths, at 100 percent. Worldometer recorded two deaths in the country, an increase from one the previous week.
Brazil followed with a 68.29 percent weekly increase in deaths, totaling 483 deaths. Daily death statistics show a 2.77% increase compared to the previous day's 470 deaths.
Next, Uruguay reported nine deaths (a 50% increase), Canada reported 240 deaths (a 13.74% increase), and Chile reported 116 deaths (a 7.41% increase).
Considering the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was in the United States, with 1,316 deaths. This represents a 10.11% decrease compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil reported 483 deaths (up 68.29%), Canada 240 deaths (up 13.74%), Chile 116 deaths (up 7.41%), and Mexico 43 deaths (down 42.67%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days were 2,253. This accounts for 26.97 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 8,355. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 2,319 deaths.
