The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.68 million cases by Saturday, November 5, 2022. Seychelles recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 28.22 percent. GISAID recorded 618 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 1.64 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Saudi Arabia, which recorded a 25.58 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 1.89 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, the increase in Omicron cases in the Philippines rose by 21.34 percent to 10,942 cases compared to the previous week. The Northern Mariana Islands saw an increase of 2,053 Omicron cases (up 9.96%), and Estonia recorded 6,158 additional Omicron cases (up 5.92%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, up to yesterday's data, there were 25,414 Omicron cases, a 0.26 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
