The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.19 million cases by Thursday, April 28, 2022. According to GISAID data, Montenegro recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 180 new cases. This represents 0.01 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Malaysia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country increased by 46.94 percent. The daily increase in Omicron cases rose by 6.06 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 6,372 cases.
Next is Lithuania, with an increase of 8,400 Omicron cases (up 23.37 percent). Omicron cases in Finland increased by 21.96 percent to 4,598 compared to the previous week, and in Vietnam, they rose by 20.96 percent to 1,737 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the increase in Omicron cases reached 10,676, a 0.01 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
