This week's COVID-19 statistics in Europe still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 18 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 10 other countries recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Moldova, Republic of, Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lithuania, and Belgium. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, October 11, 2022, amounted to 321, with a weekly growth exceeding 92.86 percent.
Moldova, Republic of, recorded the highest increase in deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 250 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 14 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported four deaths.
Spain follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 118.58 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in Spain was recorded at 247. Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded 13 deaths (up 116.67%), Lithuania recorded 20 deaths (up 100%), and Belgium recorded 27 deaths (up 92.86%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Russia, with 731 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 1.95% compared to the previous week. Following Russia, Germany recorded 471 deaths (down 3.48%), Italy recorded 369 deaths (up 29.47%), the UK recorded 328 deaths (up 91.81%), and France recorded 286 deaths (up 20.17%).
Total deaths in Europe over the past seven days were recorded at 3,250. This accounts for 40.3 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 8,065 deaths. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,703 deaths.
