This week's Covid-19 statistics in Africa show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the death toll, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, three countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while eight others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Mauritius, Tunisia, Guinea, Rwanda, and Togo. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, October 11, 2022, amounted to 15, with weekly growth above 0 percent.
Mauritius recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Africa, with weekly growth reaching 100 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded two deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's report of only one death.
Next is Tunisia, which recorded 66.67 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. The number of deaths in this country was reported as five, higher than the three recorded the previous week. Deaths in Guinea increased by 50%, while deaths in Rwanda and Togo decreased by 0%.
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Africa occurred in South Africa with nine deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 43.75% compared to the previous week. Following South Africa, the highest death tolls were recorded in Guinea with six deaths (up 50%), Tunisia with five deaths (up 66.67%), Mauritius with two deaths (up 100%), and Zimbabwe with two deaths (down 50%).
Total deaths in Africa during the last seven days were recorded at 26. This accounts for 0.32 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 8,065 deaths. The death toll in Africa decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 41 deaths.
