Based on data from the Indonesian Hajj Pilgrimage Organizing Committee (PPIH) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), as of Friday, June 14, 2024, at 1:00 PM WIB, 112 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims have passed away. This figure represents the death toll on the 34th day, nearing the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage (June 14-19, 2024).
Of this number, the majority (82 pilgrims) died in Mecca. Eighteen pilgrims died in Medina, nine at embarkation points, and three at the airport. The Ministry of Religious Affairs stated that all deceased pilgrims' Hajj rituals will be performed on their behalf (badalhaj).
Ahead of the peak Hajj pilgrimage, all Indonesian pilgrims have been transported to Arafah for the Wukuf. Pilgrims are reminded to bring sufficient supplies for the journey to Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina.
“Pilgrims do not need to bring large suitcases or cabin bags as this could hinder their movement,” said Widi Dwinanda, an officer from the Ministry of Religious Affairs Media Center, in an online press conference on Friday, June 14, 2024.
Pilgrims are advised to only bring a bag containing three days' worth of clothing, a spare ihram cloth, toiletries, and other personal necessities.
