The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.92 million cases by Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Ukraine recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 10.68 percent. GISAID recorded 995 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 1.32 percent compared to the previous day.
China (PRC) follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in the country grew by 8.48 percent. A total of 1,587 new Omicron cases were reported. Daily statistics show a 0.7 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 1,576 cases.
Next, Nigeria saw a 7.75 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 3,031 cases compared to the previous week. Aruba reported 841 new Omicron cases (a 7.54% increase), and Bonaire saw a 6.68 percent increase, reaching 1,038 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, a total of 32,262 Omicron cases were recorded, representing a 0.28 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
