This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, eight countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 16 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Cyprus, Myanmar, Armenia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, October 10, 2022, amounted to 274, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 12.56 percent.
Cyprus recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 150 percent. Worldometer recorded five deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's two deaths.
Next is Myanmar, which recorded a 100 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported six more deaths than the previous week's three. Armenia reported eight deaths (up 100%), Vietnam four deaths (up 33.33%), and the Philippines saw a 12.56% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the past seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 496 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 21.77% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, Taiwan recorded 364 deaths (up 8.66%), the Philippines 251 deaths (up 12.56%), South Korea 186 deaths (down 32.61%), and India 113 deaths (down 33.92%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,696. This accounts for 21.51 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 7,885. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,048 deaths.
