This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 10 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 15 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Bahrain, Myanmar, Cyprus, Kuwait, and Azerbaijan. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Monday, October 31, 2022, was 24, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 40 percent.
Bahrain recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, an increase from the single death reported the previous week.
Myanmar followed with a weekly increase in deaths reaching 166.67 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was eight. Deaths in Cyprus increased by 50%, deaths in Kuwait increased by 50%, and deaths in Azerbaijan increased by 40%.
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the past seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan, with 438 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 5.54% compared to the previous week. Following Taiwan, Japan reported 364 deaths (down 9.9%), the Philippines reported 253 deaths (down 5.95%), South Korea reported 157 deaths (up 4.67%), and Indonesia reported 155 deaths (up 33.62%).
A total of 1,614 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 18.55 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 8,701. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 1,695 deaths.
