West Kalimantan Has the Worst Air Pollution in Indonesia This Morning (December 12th)

West Kalimantan has the worst air quality in Indonesia this morning. According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK)'s Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU) page on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 8:00 AM WIB, West Kalimantan's air quality index was 88.

According to the KLHK's Directorate of Air Pollution Control, the ISPU is a dimensionless number used to describe the ambient air quality at a specific location, based on its impact on human health, aesthetics, and other living things.

The ISPU calculation is based on measurements of seven air pollutant parameters: PM10, PM2.5, NO2, SO2, CO, O3, and HC. Air pollutant parameter measurements are spread across 72 stations in various regions.

Based on Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 14 of 2020 concerning the Air Pollutant Standard Index, an ISPU in the range of 0-50 indicates good air quality, 51-100 indicates moderate air quality, and 101-200 indicates unhealthy air quality that is detrimental to humans, animals, and plants.

Next, very unhealthy air quality in the range of 201-300 can increase health risks in sensitive groups. Meanwhile, hazardous air quality in the range of over 300 can seriously harm health and requires immediate action.

Below West Kalimantan, North Sumatra is ranked second worst in Indonesia with an air quality index of 86. Then, in third place is Central Kalimantan with an air quality index of 82.

This means that no region has hazardous air quality.
