COVID-19 Death Rate Among Working-Age Adults Exceeds That of the Elderly

The proportion of coronavirus-related deaths among the productive age group reached 52.2% by Wednesday, August 4, 2021. The breakdown is as follows: 2.8% aged 19-30 years, 12.7% aged 31-45 years, and 36.7% aged 46-59 years.

This percentage surpasses that of the elderly, which stands at 46.7%, a group considered to have the highest risk of death if infected with Covid-19. Meanwhile, the proportion of deaths in children was recorded at 0.5%, equally distributed between the 0-5 and 6-18 year old age groups.

The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Indonesia has reached 100,636. East Java contributed the highest number of cases with 21,670 deaths, followed by West Java with 20,947 deaths and DKI Jakarta with 12,531 deaths.

Coronavirus deaths need to be curbed. Therefore, the public needs to participate in preventing them by suppressing the rate of coronavirus transmission.

One step to suppress the rate of coronavirus transmission is to diligently implement the 3M health protocols: wearing a mask, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is urged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
