The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus is spreading globally, reaching 740,280 cases by Saturday, January 29, 2022. Chile reported the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 431.62 percent. GISAID recorded 1,967 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 3.64 percent compared to the previous day.
Japan follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country grew by 323.67 percent. Daily figures show a 217.16 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 2,116 cases.
Next is Argentina, with an increase of 981 Omicron cases (up 250.36 percent). Poland saw a 182.82 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 4,378 compared to the previous week, and Germany reported 30,041 new Omicron cases (up 180.29 percent).
In Indonesia, as of today, there are 1,857 Omicron cases, a 2.15 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its first detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
