This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Six countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while seven others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Honduras, Paraguay, Canada, Ecuador, and Brazil. A total of 770 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Tuesday, October 25, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 32.33 percent.
Honduras recorded the highest increase in deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 272.73 percent. Worldometer recorded 41 deaths in the country, up from 11 the previous week.
Paraguay followed with a 100 percent weekly increase in deaths. Two deaths were reported, compared to one the previous week.
Rounding out the top five were Canada with 240 deaths (up 42.01%), Ecuador with four deaths (up 33.33%), and Brazil with a 32.33% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was recorded in the United States, with 1,316 deaths. This represents a 5.39% decrease compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil recorded 483 deaths (up 32.33%), Canada 240 deaths (up 42.01%), Chile 116 deaths (up 6.42%), and Mexico 54 deaths (down 21.74%).
A total of 2,305 deaths were recorded in the Americas over the past seven days. This accounts for 27.26 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, totaling 8,455. The number of deaths in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 2,269 deaths.
