Confirmed Covid-19 cases in children have seen a resurgence over the past two months. Reports from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) indicate that the percentage of confirmed Covid-19 cases in children rose by 2% to 15% as of August 2021.
The percentage of confirmed Covid-19 cases in children also reached 15% earlier this year, specifically in February, April, and May 2021. However, this percentage decreased to 12% in June 2021.
Over the past year, the trend in the percentage of confirmed Covid-19 cases in children has been fluctuating. Nevertheless, the public needs to be more vigilant to prevent further spread of the coronavirus. This is especially crucial since in-person learning (PTM) resumed on August 30, 2021.
Furthermore, the number of deaths from Covid-19 in children has increased in the last two months. According to Kemenkes data, the percentage reached 2% in July and August 2021.
Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono stated that children participating in in-person learning are not only at risk of Covid-19 infection but also have the potential to become a source of coronavirus transmission within their families. Therefore, the implementation of PTM must strictly adhere to health protocols to protect children from the coronavirus.
