The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.98 million cases by Tuesday, October 4, 2022. According to GISAID data, Greece recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 8,761 new cases. This represents 0.18 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Russia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country increased by 13.72 percent, with 14,426 new cases reported. The daily increase in Omicron cases rose by 2.23 percent compared to the previous day's 14,111 cases.
Next is Japan with an increase of 234,890 Omicron cases (up 5.18%), Bonaire with 835 new Omicron cases (up 4.24%), and Panama with 2,333 new Omicron cases (up 3.92%).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases increased by 0.73 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 23,300 cases. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
