Most Indonesians welcome Ramadan by spending more on goods and services than usual. This is based on a Populix survey showing that Indonesian consumer spending surges up to 50% during Ramadan.
The survey indicates that the majority of respondents (43%) have spending that is 25-50% higher during Ramadan than their usual monthly budget.
Furthermore, 27% of respondents reported spending more than 50% above their usual monthly budget during Ramadan.
Conversely, 19% of respondents stated their spending during Ramadan was the same as their usual monthly budget, while 11% said their spending was actually 25% less than their usual monthly budget.
This survey also shows that Indonesians generally make several preparations to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. These include preparing food and drinks, buying new clothes and prayer equipment, and even home renovations. These preparations naturally increase Indonesian consumer spending during Ramadan compared to their usual monthly budget.
This survey was conducted among 1,492 respondents aged 18-55 in Indonesia, from March 1st to 9th, 2022.
