This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Six countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while 11 others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay, Panama, and Chile. A total of 163 deaths were recorded in these five countries by Friday, September 30, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 35.48 percent.
Argentina had the highest weekly increase in deaths, at 166.67 percent. Worldometer recorded 24 deaths in the country, up from nine the previous week.
Ecuador reported a 100 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week, with four deaths reported compared to two the previous week. Uruguay reported six deaths (up 100%), Panama reported an increase of 50%, and Chile reported 126 deaths (up 35.48%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was in the United States, with 1,967 deaths. This represents a 3.44% decrease compared to the previous week. Brazil followed with 322 deaths (down 31.05%), Peru with 133 deaths (down 22.22%), Chile with 126 deaths (up 35.48%), and Mexico with 99 deaths (down 11.61%).
A total of 2,818 deaths were recorded in the Americas over the past seven days. This accounts for 35.15 percent of the global COVID-19 death toll of 8,018. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which saw 3,042 deaths.
