This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 10 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 17 others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Afghanistan, Cyprus, Iran (Islamic Republic), Japan, and Singapore. The total deaths in these five countries as of Saturday, August 6, 2022, amounted to 1,396, with a weekly growth exceeding 53.85 percent.
Afghanistan ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 80 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded nine deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported five deaths.
Following is Cyprus, with weekly death growth reaching 75 percent. Daily death figures in this country increased by 75% compared to the previous day's recorded 16 deaths.
Furthermore, deaths in Iran (Islamic Republic) increased by 67.04%, deaths in Japan increased by 58.44%, and Singapore recorded 40 deaths (up 53.85%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 873 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 58.44% compared to the previous week. Following this, Iran (Islamic Republic) had the second highest number of deaths with 446 (up 67.04%), India recorded 337 deaths (up 6.98%), Taiwan recorded 303 deaths (down 14.65%), and Thailand recorded 199 deaths (down 13.1%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days reached 2,890. This accounts for 19.58 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 14,760. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,526 deaths.
