Surpassing India, Indonesia Records Highest Weekly Covid-19 Case Increase in Asia

Indonesia recorded an additional 290,649 Covid-19 positive cases between July 8th and 14th, 2021. This represents a 45% increase compared to the previous week, which saw 201,125 cases.

This weekly increase in coronavirus cases in Indonesia was the highest in Asia, surpassing India's weekly increase of 278,233 cases.

The significant rise in Indonesian coronavirus cases over the past week is attributed to a second wave of Covid-19, which began in early June 2021.

One contributing factor to this second wave was the high level of public mobility during the 2021 Eid al-Fitr holiday. Furthermore, the highly contagious Delta variant (B.1.617.2) has been detected in Indonesia.

To prevent further widespread transmission, the public is urged to diligently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, and washing hands with soap. People are also encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
