PSBB Jakarta Volume Two, Coronavirus Reproduction Rate Remains Fluctuating

Based on Bonza data on Tuesday (October 6th), the effective reproduction number (Rt) of the coronavirus in Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, is still above the safe threshold. Over the past week, the average Rt for the coronavirus in Jakarta was 1.06. Although it fluctuates, the number tends to be increasing. As of Sunday (October 4th), Jakarta's Rt was 1.12.

The DKI Jakarta government decided to pull the emergency brake. Therefore, starting September 14th, 2020, Indonesia's capital city re-implemented large-scale social restrictions (PSBB). Since then, the coronavirus Rt has been in the range of 0.99-1.12 points per day. The government also emphasized that the public should continue to practice the 3M's (wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap) to prevent transmission.

The Rt metric uses 1 as a benchmark. If the Rt is above 1.0, then each infection can transmit to more than one other infection. If the Rt is at 2.0, then one patient can infect two other patients. Conversely, if the Rt is below 1.0, the potential for transmission is considered low, and the potential for the virus to spread is decreasing.
