This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Five countries recorded increased deaths this week, while four others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand, and the Philippines. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, March 28, 2023, amounted to 111, with a weekly growth exceeding 4.92 percent.
Hong Kong recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, a 50 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is Saudi Arabia, which recorded 150 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 66.67% increase in deaths compared to the previous day. India recorded 33 deaths (up 50%), Thailand recorded six deaths (up 20%), and the Philippines recorded 64 deaths (up 4.92%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, Japan had the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 231 deaths. Reported deaths in Japan decreased by 24.76% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, the Philippines reported 64 deaths (up 4.92%), South Korea reported 52 deaths (down 7.14%), India reported 33 deaths (up 50%), and Indonesia reported 25 deaths (unchanged).
A total of 444 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 14.81 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 2,997. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 522 deaths.
