The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.38 million cases by Saturday, February 19, 2022. Ukraine ranks first, with a week-over-week increase in Omicron cases of 1,450 percent. GISAID recorded 31 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 6.9 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Ukraine is Morocco, with a weekly growth in Omicron cases reaching 103.03 percent. Daily new Omicron cases increased by 45.65 percent compared to the previous day, totaling 46 cases.
Next is Martinique, with 115 new Omicron cases (a 101.75% increase), Guam with an increase of 50.85 percent to 89 cases compared to the previous week, and North Korea with 2,189 new Omicron cases (a 46.13% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, as of today, there are 6,170 Omicron cases, a 0.64 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
