The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.54 million cases by Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Albania recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 45.21 percent. GISAID recorded 758 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 45.21 percent compared to the previous day.
Montenegro follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in this country grew by 11.19 percent. Daily figures show a 6.43 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 420 cases.
Next is Bosnia and Herzegovina with 216 additional Omicron cases (up 10.77%), followed by China (PRC) with a 3.96 percent increase to 19,013 cases compared to the previous week, and Kosovo with 709 additional Omicron cases (up 3.35%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, a total of 34,750 Omicron cases were recorded, representing a 0.06 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
