The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.1 million cases by Tuesday, January 31, 2023. The United States ranks first, with weekly Omicron cases growing by 1.83 percent. GISAID recorded 2.16 million Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.13 percent compared to the previous day.
The United Kingdom follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the country grew by 0.22 percent, totaling 1.39 million cases. Daily statistics show a 0.08 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, also totaling 1.39 million.
Next is Germany, with 524,330 Omicron cases (up 0.82%). Japan saw a 3.92 percent increase in Omicron cases to 359,980 compared to the previous week, and France saw a 1.21 percent increase to 332,100 cases compared to the previous week.
As for Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 33,786 as of yesterday's data, a 0.23 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
