This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the persistent increase in the number of deaths. This week, 14 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 11 others recorded deaths, albeit in smaller numbers.
Percentage-wise, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Macau, Singapore, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, December 22, 2022, amounted to 23, with a weekly growth exceeding 66.67 percent.
Macau ranks first, with a 300 percent weekly increase in deaths. In this country, Worldometer recorded four deaths, a 20 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Singapore follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 100 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll was recorded as two. Deaths in Azerbaijan increased by 100%, Vietnam recorded two deaths (a 100% increase), and deaths in Sri Lanka increased by 66.67%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,739 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 18.46% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 375 deaths (up 14.68%), Hong Kong recorded 237 deaths (up 23.44%), Taiwan recorded 199 deaths (down 5.69%), and the Philippines recorded 198 deaths (up 32%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days reached 3,180. This accounts for 31.72 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,025. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,810.
