GISAID reported that the number of Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 1,170 as of Friday, January 21, 2022. This represents a 268-case increase compared to the previous day. Weekly growth in Indonesia reached 128.96 percent.
This number of Omicron cases places Indonesia first in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, this is the highest number of Omicron cases ever recorded in Indonesia.
Singapore, with 1,004 cases, remains the country with the highest number of Omicron cases in Southeast Asia.
Thailand is in third place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in Thailand grew by 77.87 percent. The daily number of Omicron cases yesterday was 619. Malaysia reported 463 Omicron cases (a 57.48% increase), Cambodia reported 159 cases (a 245.65% increase), and the Philippines reported 43 cases compared to the previous week.
GISAID's report also states that it has detected a total of 470,700 Omicron Covid-19 cases worldwide. This is an increase compared to the previous week's total of 324,920 cases.
