The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.52 million cases by Saturday, December 10, 2022. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 1.41 percent. GISAID recorded 1.98 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.15 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is the United Kingdom, which recorded 0.31 percent more Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the UK increased by 0.05 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, the number of Omicron cases in Japan increased by 1.9 percent to 288,580 cases compared to the previous week; Canada recorded 216,080 Omicron cases (up 1.76 percent); and India recorded 121,520 Omicron cases (up 0.34 percent).
Meanwhile, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia, as of today, is recorded at 29,828 cases, down 0 percent compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
