Nationally, the proportion of active COVID-19 cases in children reached 13.5% as of Wednesday, June 23, 2021. This breaks down to 3.1% of active cases in children aged 0-5 years, and 10.4% in children aged 6-18 years. This figure is higher than the proportion of active cases in the elderly (11.2%).
The high proportion of active COVID-19 cases in children is due to transmission from adults who are active outside the home. Furthermore, hospital care facilities are not yet optimal, and there is no COVID-19 vaccine currently available for children.
Meanwhile, the highest proportion of active cases remains in the productive age group. Specifically, the proportion of active cases in individuals aged 19-30 years is 25.5%.
The proportion of active cases in individuals aged 31-45 years reaches 28.5%, while the proportion in those aged 46-59 years is 21.2%.
To prevent an increase in active COVID-19 cases, the public is urged to always adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing a mask, maintaining distance and avoiding crowds, and washing hands with soap.
Parents are also urged to provide online activities for their children and to avoid taking them outside the home. If travel is unavoidable, destinations should be well-ventilated and not crowded.
