This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, four countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while six others recorded fewer deaths.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, India, Lebanon, and Indonesia. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, April 11, 2023, amounted to 128, with a weekly growth rate above -10 percent.
Hong Kong recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 350 percent. Worldometer recorded nine deaths in the country, a 12.5 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Saudi Arabia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 100 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll was four. India recorded 78 deaths (up 95%), Lebanon saw a 25% increase in deaths, and Indonesia recorded 27 deaths (down 10%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 143 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 29.56% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, India reported 78 deaths (up 95%), South Korea recorded 51 deaths (down 12.07%), the Philippines reported 35 deaths (down 27.08%), and Indonesia recorded 27 deaths (down 10%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 371. This accounts for 18.45 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 2,011. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 410 deaths.
