The Jakarta Provincial Government stated that the area of open green space (RTH) in the capital city reaches 33.34 million square meters, or only 5.2% of the province's total area.
Based on the area per administrative city, East Jakarta has the largest RTH area, at 26.2% of the total RTH in DKI Jakarta. Next is South Jakarta with 24.87%.
North Jakarta accounts for 20.93%; Central Jakarta, 12.69%; and West Jakarta only 8.64%.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government stated that the conversion of RTH will continue to be increased because the achievement is still far below the ideal standard proportion of urban RTH, which is 30% of the city's area. This is in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 26 of 2007 concerning Spatial Planning.
In line with this, the DKI Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry Service will complete 23 RTHs in four administrative city areas, namely East Jakarta, North Jakarta, West Jakarta, and South Jakarta, with a total area of 6 hectares.
In addition to serving as a public space, the development of RTH also functions to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the air.
"It should be noted that the high level of CO2 emissions in Jakarta is one of the sources of air pollution in Jakarta," wrote the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government on its website.
