The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) reports that the national coverage of complete basic immunization (IDL) for infants reached 95.4% in 2023. Complete basic immunization is a package of immunizations that must be given to children before their first birthday, covering immunizations from Hepatitis B to measles-rubella.
Although the national figure is quite high, the achievement is not evenly distributed across provinces.
The lowest achievement was in Papua Pegunungan, where the infant IDL rate was only 8.9%.
Meanwhile, the province with the highest IDL achievement was Banten at 112.2%, followed by DKI Jakarta and South Sulawesi, both at 110.1%.
"The equitable distribution of immunization remains a challenge for us, so that high immunization coverage can be achieved in all areas," said the Director of Immunization Management at Kemenkes, Prima Yosephine, in an online press conference on Monday (March 18, 2024).
The following is a list of the 10 provinces with the lowest national infant IDL coverage in 2023:
1. Papua Pegunungan: 8.9%
2. Central Papua: 36.5%
3. Aceh: 41.5%
4. South Papua: 57.6%
5. West Sumatra: 61.3%
6. Southwest Papua: 63.9%
7. Riau: 76.4%
8. East Nusa Tenggara (NTT): 77.8%
9. West Kalimantan: 78.9%
10. Riau Islands: 80%
