Based on a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia had 29,005 hotels in 2023. This comprises 4,129 star-rated hotels and 24,876 non-star-rated hotels or other accommodations.
The number increased slightly by approximately 0.71% (year-on-year/yoy) from 28,800 hotels in 2022.
The BPS stated that this increase was driven by growing demand for accommodation services.
By region, Bali had the highest number of hotels nationally, with 3,895 hotels this year.
This was followed by East Java and West Java, with 3,783 and 3,119 hotels respectively.
Meanwhile, Gorontalo had the lowest number of hotels nationwide, with 135 hotels in 2023. This was followed by North Kalimantan (138 hotels) and West Sulawesi (163 hotels).
The following is a list of the top 10 provinces with the highest number of hotels in 2023:
1. Bali: 3,895 hotels
2. East Java: 3,783 hotels
3. West Java: 3,119 hotels
4. Central Java: 2,019 hotels
5. North Sumatra: 1,353 hotels
6. South Sulawesi: 993 hotels
7. West Sumatra: 946 hotels
8. West Nusa Tenggara (NTB): 892 hotels
9. Jakarta: 870 hotels
10. East Kalimantan: 629 hotels
In addition, the BPS also recorded that the total revenue from the accommodation services sector in Indonesia reached Rp73.74 trillion in 2022. This figure increased significantly by 41.31% from the previous year, which recorded Rp52.18 trillion.
According to the BPS, this is in line with the recovery of the global and national economy after the pandemic.
