According to the latest Henley Passport Index released by Henley & Partners, Singapore has the strongest passport in ASEAN and globally as of early Q3 2023. Singaporean passport holders have visa-free access to 192 countries.
Malaysia ranks second in Southeast Asia with visa-free access to 180 countries. Brunei Darussalam follows in third place, with visa-free access to 166 countries.
Next are Timor-Leste and Thailand, with visa-free access to 94 and 79 countries respectively.
Indonesia's passport ranks sixth in Southeast Asia, allowing visa-free travel to 73 countries during the same period.
Myanmar has the weakest passport in the region, with visa-free access to only 47 countries.

Visa-free access means passport holders do not need to apply for and pay for a visa before departure. Visas can be obtained on arrival or by using an electronic travel authorization (ETA).
The Henley Passport Index is compiled based on the number of destinations accessible without a visa, using exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The index covers 199 different passports and 227 travel destinations and is updated quarterly.
