COVID-19 Positivity Rate Remains Fluctuating During Level 4 PPKM

Indonesia's COVID-19 positivity rate fluctuated throughout the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) and PPKM Level 4 periods. The rate ranged from 22.8% to 33.4% between July 3 and 28, 2021.

This positivity rate remained high over those 26 days, exceeding the World Health Organization (WHO) threshold of 5%.

The high positivity rate indicates that the number of people tested for COVID-19 remains low. An average of only 147,944 people were tested per day between July 3 and 28, 2021. This is significantly below the government's target of 410,000 tests per day in Java and Bali.

If this continues, more undetected COVID-19 cases will circulate within the community, further complicating the country's efforts to manage the pandemic.

Therefore, the COVID-19 positivity rate must be lowered by increasing the number of people tested. Furthermore, the government must optimize contact tracing and treatment of infected patients.

In addition, the public is urged to diligently follow the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. The public is also encouraged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
