This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Fourteen countries recorded increased deaths this week, while ten others reported deaths, albeit in smaller numbers.
Percentage-wise, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Iran (Islamic Republic), Singapore, Iraq, Pakistan, and Armenia. A total of 27 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Friday, December 9, 2022, representing weekly growth exceeding 100 percent.
Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 466.67 percent. Worldometer recorded 17 deaths in the country, a 6.25 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Singapore follows with a 100 percent weekly increase in deaths. Four deaths were reported, compared to two the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, Iraq reported two deaths (up 100%), Pakistan reported a 100% increase in deaths, and Armenia also reported a 100% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, Japan recorded the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 1,236 deaths. This represents a 29.83% increase compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea reported 340 deaths (down 0.87%), Indonesia reported 255 deaths (down 19.3%), Taiwan reported 198 deaths (down 26.12%), and the Philippines reported 162 deaths (up 35%).
A total of 2,610 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 31.54 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 8,276. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,334 deaths.
