To curb the spread of Covid-19 in regions, currently 149 regencies/cities are aggressively conducting Covid-19 tests above the national average. Data as of Wednesday, January 18, 2023, shows the national average testing rate is 0.4 people per 1,000 population/week.
The top five, starting from the highest, are Central Jakarta, Balikpapan, South Jakarta, East Jakarta, and Mimika, with testing rates of 4.1, 3.84, 3.76, 2.79, and 2.65 people per 1,000 population/week, respectively.
Central Jakarta ranks first. With a population of 914,530, the number of people tested is 4.1 per 1,000 population/week. The latest positive rate is 1.87 percent. The positive rate in this region has decreased compared to the previous week.
Next is Balikpapan. The population is 649,420. In an effort to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of people tested is 3.84 per 1,000 population/week. The positive rate is 0.48 percent, an increase compared to the previous week.
Following this, South Jakarta recorded 3.76 tests per 1,000 population/week, East Jakarta 2.79 per 1,000 population/week, and Mimika 2.65 per 1,000 population/week.
Anticipating the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on a recapitulation of national Covid data, 152 regencies/cities in Indonesia actively reported a higher daily number of people tested than before. Meanwhile, 147 other regencies/cities recorded a lower number of tests compared to the previous week.
Regions outside Java with the highest number of people tested include Balikpapan, Mimika, and Badung, with 3.84, 2.65, and 2.22 people tested per 1,000 population/week, respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue reducing Covid-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
