A report by *Our World in Data* shows that Indonesia's COVID-19 case fatality rate (CFR) reached 3.38% on October 20, 2021. This percentage still places Indonesia second highest in Southeast Asia, as it was last month.
Myanmar remains in first place with a CFR of 3.76%. Vietnam, in third place, has a COVID-19 CFR of 2.45%.
Cambodia is in fourth place with a CFR of 2.30%. The Philippines and Malaysia follow, with COVID-19 CFRs of 1.50% and 1.17%, respectively.
The COVID-19 CFR in Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, and Timor-Leste are recorded at 1.02%, 0.69%, and 0.61%, respectively. Singapore has the lowest recorded COVID-19 CFR in Southeast Asia, at 0.17%.
As of October 21, 2021, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Indonesia has reached 143,120, the highest in Southeast Asia.
Indonesia is followed by the Philippines with a total of 41,237 COVID-19 deaths. Malaysia has 28,234 COVID-19 deaths.
The COVID-19 death toll must be reduced by curbing the spread of the virus. This can be achieved by diligently implementing the 3M health protocols: wearing a mask, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap.
