This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, 13 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 17 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Japan. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, August 8, 2022, amounted to 1,153, with a weekly growth exceeding 52.98 percent.
Kazakhstan ranks first, with a 100 percent increase in weekly deaths. Worldometer recorded two deaths in the country, an increase from the single death reported the previous week.
Next is the Philippines, which recorded 81.82 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 14.29% increase in deaths compared to the previous day. Deaths in Singapore increased by 62.5%, Sri Lanka recorded 30 deaths (up 57.89%), and Japan recorded 1,002 deaths (up 52.98%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,002 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 52.98% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, the highest number of deaths was recorded in Iran (Islamic Republic) with 463 deaths (up 47.45%), India with 334 deaths (up 3.73%), Taiwan with 302 deaths (down 8.76%), and South Korea with 216 deaths (up 24.14%).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 3,067. This accounts for 22.34 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 13,731. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,535 deaths.
