The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.58 million cases by Thursday, March 30, 2023. Montenegro ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases of 8.33 percent, totaling 455 new cases according to GISAID. Daily cases in the country increased by 1.79 percent compared to the previous day.
Zimbabwe follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 6.76 percent. Daily figures show a 6.76 percent increase compared to the previous day, with 296 new cases recorded.
Next is Kosovo with 714 additional Omicron cases (a 4.08% increase), Russia with 41,436 additional cases (a 2.41% increase), and Austria with 181,910 additional cases (a 1.99% increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 34,882, showing a 0.3 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
