Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia's morbidity rate decreased to 13.04% in 2021, compared to 14.46% the previous year. According to age group, the population aged 60 and above (elderly) experienced the highest number of health complaints that disrupted daily activities, reaching 22.48%.
Morbidity is the percentage of the population experiencing health complaints in the last month that resulted in disruption to their daily activities.
Besides the elderly, the 0-4 year age group had the second highest morbidity rate at 17.03%, followed by the 55-59 year age group at 16.75%.
Meanwhile, the 10-14 year age group experienced the lowest number of health complaints impacting daily activities, at only 8.5%. This was followed by the 15-19 year age group, which experienced health complaints at only 8.52%.
Based on gender, the morbidity rate for males was higher at 13.77% compared to females at 12.3%. Meanwhile, by area type, urban morbidity was higher at 14.65% compared to rural areas at only 10.92%.
A higher percentage of the population experiencing health complaints indicates a lower level of public health in a region. Conversely, a lower percentage of the population experiencing health complaints indicates a higher level of public health in a region.
